Domestic work by the rules
What to know when agreeing on the cleaning of a home in Italy. A short guide, with the official sites.

Who the employer is
Pulity puts people in touch and takes no part in the agreement: it hires nobody, pays nobody and pays no contributions. If someone works in your home, the work relationship is between you and them.
The most common ways are three: a domestic work contract, occasional work with the "Libretto Famiglia", or a company or self-employed person with a VAT number who invoices you.
The domestic work contract
It is the way for who comes regularly, even a few hours a week. The household tells INPS of the hiring, pays the wage and pays the contributions, which depend on the hours worked.
Minimum pay, levels, holidays, thirteenth month and sick leave are set by the national collective agreement for domestic work. The amounts change every year: check those in force.
Occasional work
For small occasional jobs there is the "Libretto Famiglia" of INPS: the household buys payment vouchers that include contributions and insurance.
It has yearly limits of pay and of hours, for who works and for who pays. You find them up to date on the site of INPS.
Companies and the self-employed
A cleaning company, or a self-employed person with a VAT number, gives you a quote and an invoice: contract and contributions are theirs to deal with.
Always ask whether they are insured for damages and who the people who will come are.
